Welcome to UHCL's Literature Program!
Do you know the difference between literature classes and English classes?
Literature indicates a study of texts beyond the English tradition. In reading literature, we learn about other people, other times, and other places. We learn about ourselves: our identities, dreams, desires, and more. Our students study styles of writing and meanings of texts far beyond the workings of a particular language.
We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in Literature.
Authors and Writings
You will read authors from the English, American, and Continental tradition as well as writings by members of emergent and overlooked groups: women's literature, ethnic and minority literatures, and postcolonial literature.
Reading texts as expressions of culture brings significance to the development of our lives, motivations, and goals.
Day and Evening Classes
You may choose daytime and evening undergraduate classes in literature, creative writing, cultural studies, film studies, technical writing, business writing, and composition.
Our evening graduate program offers a traditional literature degree, pedagogical and professional tracks, and the option of a thesis or project.
